On January 21, 2025, Espaillat took a moment to reflect on the lives of two NYPD officers, Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora. In his tweet, he expressed solidarity with their families and the community. He stated: "Hoy hacemos una pausa para reflexionar sobre las vidas de los agentes del NYPD Jason Rivera y Wilbert Mora y nos unimos en solidaridad para apoyar a sus dos familias y a nuestra comunidad."

The following day, January 22, 2025, Espaillat addressed actions taken by President Trump on his first day in office. He criticized the pardoning of individuals involved in the January 6 attacks on police officers. Espaillat remarked: "On his first day in office, President Trump pardoned hundreds of felons who violently attacked police officers on January 6." He emphasized that such pardons display disrespect for law enforcement.

In another tweet on the same day, posted in Spanish, Espaillat reiterated his stance against these pardons by President Trump. He wrote: "En su primer día en el cargo, el presidente Trump indultó a cientos de delincuentes que atacaron violentamente a agentes de policía el 6 de enero."
