Guest conductor Giancarlo Guerrero is set to lead the Juilliard Orchestra in a celebration of George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" centennial. The performance, part of an all-American music program, will also feature works by Samuel Barber, Alan Hovhaness, and Joan Tower. Pianist Yoav Roth will perform the Gershwin solo. This piece, known for capturing the essence of New York City, premiered at Aeolian Hall in 1924 and is recognized as one of the first to blend classical and jazz music.

The concert is scheduled for Monday, November 18, at 7:30 pm at Alice Tully Hall in New York. Tickets are available through Juilliard's website and box office.

Juilliard continues its celebration with "The New Series: Schoenberg and Beyond," marking Arnold Schoenberg’s 150th birth anniversary. Now in its third season, this series examines Schoenberg’s influence on modern composers who have both embraced and rejected his innovative composing techniques.

The event will open with seven small ensemble works by composers influenced by Schoenberg—Pärt, Berg, Berio, Crawford-Seeger, Balter, Kolb, and Webern—and conclude with Schoenberg’s "Pierrot lunaire." David Serkin Ludwig will lead a pre-concert talk exploring Schoenberg’s legacy.

This concert takes place on Tuesday, November 19, at Paul Hall at The Juilliard School. The pre-concert talk begins at 6:30 pm with the main event following at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available on a pay-what-you-wish basis through Juilliard's website and box office.

Both concerts will be livestreamed on Juilliard's website.
