Speaker Carl Heastie, alongside Assemblymembers Chris Burdick and Dana Levenberg, announced $1.2 million in funding for renovations at Neighbors Link. The program has been offering educational, employment, and legal services to immigrant families for over 20 years. This funding aims to enhance the facilities at Neighbors Link as they lease a new location to expand their services.
“New York has a long history of immigration and it is our duty to continue the tradition of supporting new residents with open arms and hearts,” said Speaker Heastie. “Neighbors Link does incredible work in the Westchester community and I’m honored to join Assemblymembers Burdick and Levenberg to announce this support.”
Assemblymember Burdick expressed gratitude towards Speaker Heastie for his involvement in securing the funds. “For over twenty years, Neighbors Link has made our community a stronger place by helping new residents with the additional services they need to make Westchester their home," he stated.
Assemblymember Levenberg emphasized the importance of such support services: “It is our duty to ensure that Westchester County has the support services needed to make our community welcoming for all."
The allocated funds will facilitate comprehensive renovations of Neighbors Link's new space. Enhancements will include additional classroom spaces, children's play areas, and improved technology infrastructure for workforce development.
Additionally, Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Burdick visited the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester with CEO Alyzza Ozer. Established in 1938, this club provides developmental programming for children across Westchester County. The Assembly Majority included $140,000 in this year’s budget to maintain its after-school program following changes in eligibility calculations.
