NYU alumni and faculty have secured 17 nominations for the upcoming 67th annual Grammy Awards. The event, set to take place on February 2, 2025, in Los Angeles, will be broadcast live on CBS.
The nominations span across 11 of the 94 categories, highlighting NYU's presence in areas such as Best Musical Theater Album, Song of the Year, Best Rock Song, and Best Rap Song. Notably, four out of six nominees for Best Musical Theater Album are affiliated with NYU.
Eight alumni and faculty members contributed to works nominated for multiple awards. The complete list of categories and nominations is available online.
Among the notable nominations:
- "Song of the Year" includes Lady Gaga (TSOA) and Andrew Watt (Steinhardt) for "Die with a Smile."
- "Best Rock Song" features Andrew Watt (Steinhardt) for "Dark Matter."
- "Best Rap Song" includes Raul Cubina (TSOA) for "Carnival."
- Childish Gambino (TSOA) is nominated in both "Best Dance/Electronic Recording" for his role as a featured vocalist in "Witchy," and in "Best Progressive R&B Album" as a rapper on "Bando Stone and the New World."
In the category of Best Musical Theater Album:
- Carmel Dean (TSOA) is recognized as songwriter/composer for "The Notebook."
- Matt Hinkley (Steinhardt), Lawrence Manchester (Steinhardt), Justin Levine (TSOA), and Shaina Taub (TSOA) are noted for their contributions to productions like "The Outsiders," "The Wiz," and "Suffs."
Additional nominations include Mark Piro (CAS) for Best Historical Album with his work on "The Sound of Music," Mark Ronson (CAS) for Best Remixed Recording with "Espresso," Nicole Zuraitis (Steinhardt) for Best Jazz Performance with her piece "Little Fears," Lady Gaga again in Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with “Die with a Smile,” and Bao Nguyen (CAS) as video director in Best Music Film with “The Greatest Night in Pop.”
Furthermore, projects involving Jordan Perteet (TSOA), Gabi Grella (TSOA), Nija Charles (TSOA), Kaleb “KQuick” Rollins (TSOA), Steinhardt faculty Alan Ferber and John Scofield, along with Tisch faculty Jim Anderson and Ulrike Schwarz also received recognition through their contributions.
