The NYU Game Center will host its annual "No Quarter" exhibition on November 23, from 7:00 to 10 p.m. at 370 Jay St. in Brooklyn. This event, which is free but requires reservations, features experimental games and their creators.

Curated by Marie Foulston for the third consecutive year, No Quarter 2024 showcases new works from artists and teams such as Izzy Kestrel, Holy Wow Studio, Bahiyya Khan, and Rob Dubbin with Garrett Miller. Attendees can play a variety of games while enjoying music and drinks.

Preceding the main event are "Game Design Days," a series of ten pop-up events held in three New York City neighborhoods from November 19-21. Supported by Empire State Development, these events include role-playing games, workshops, studio visits, and arcades.

Naomi Clark, chair of the Game Center at Tisch’s department of game design stated: “For this year’s No Quarter, we're once again bringing together brilliant game creators from around New York, the nation, and the world to present a suite of never-before-seen games to the public. This year's games express a strong theme of building together and struggling to cooperate amidst mounting challenges. We're thrilled to explore the frontiers of meaningful play with these artists.”

Clark added that "Game Design Days" provide an opportunity to partner with gaming community members across New York City: “Game Design Days lets us shine a spotlight on the best and brightest hubs of New York City's gaming communities,” said Clark.

The term "No Quarter" refers to arcade machines traditionally operated by quarters. The event began in 2010 but paused during the pandemic before resuming in 2022.

Artists featured include Rob Dubbin and Garrett Miller with their multiplayer city-council simulator "Tide Breakers." Holy Wow Studios presents "Tower of Typing!" where players race using keyboards. Izzy Kestrel's "Dreamscape Explorer" invites players into an online chat room exploring dreams. Bahiyya Khan offers "HOWL," an immersive video game about grief.

The NYU Game Center aims to educate future designers and developers while advancing game scholarship through innovation.
