The Katz School of Science and Health has bolstered its health sciences faculty by adding several top-tier educators. These new members bring extensive clinical, academic, and leadership experience to programs in Occupational Therapy Doctorate, M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies, and Accelerated Post-Baccalaureate in Nursing.
"Whether through groundbreaking research, innovative technologies or compassionate patient care, our expert health sciences faculty are educating our students in the world’s best skilled care," said Dr. Paul Russo, dean of the Katz School and vice provost of Yeshiva University.
In the Occupational Therapy Doctorate program, Dr. Gioia Ciani serves as program director and associate professor. She has over 20 years of experience as an occupational therapist at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and Mount Sinai Beth Israel. She holds a doctorate in occupational therapy from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.
Dr. Lawrence Abas is a physical therapist with more than 28 years of clinical experience at Northwell Health in Queens and Nassau County. He previously supervised physical therapy programs for Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State. He holds a clinical doctorate in physical therapy from Stony Brook University.
Charles Bermejo has worked on projects promoting childhood disability prevention with Save the Children Philippines while serving as a faculty member at University Santo Tomas. He holds a master’s degree in occupational therapy from the same university.
Dr. Gary Grimaldi brings over 30 years of rehabilitation medicine experience focusing on adults with neurological disabilities. He holds a Ph.D. in occupational therapy from Nova Southeastern University.
Kieran Morrissey is a hand therapist and OT fieldwork coordinator at Spear Physical Therapy in Midtown Manhattan with a master's degree from Sacred Heart University.
Dr. Terese Roberson-Betts has over 12 years of clinical experience working with students with disabilities across various educational levels and holds an occupational therapy doctorate from New York University.
Dr. Asha Roy leads workforce safety programs at Northwell Health, emphasizing ergonomic consultations and injury prevention initiatives aimed at workforce wellness. She holds a Ph.D. in organizational leadership.
In the M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies program, Dr. Lorraine Cashin serves as assistant dean and professor with over 23 years as a practicing PA in emergency medicine and leading international medical missions for Mercy University’s program. She holds a doctor of medical science from the University of Lynchburg.
Dr. Brian Baker is an associate program director who taught courses related to medicine and law at Mercy University's PA program while collaborating on various service initiatives including international medical missions. He holds an M.D., along with a law degree from Touro College.
For the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology program, Dr. Stefanie Bohart has been practicing since 2009 specializing in adult neurological disorders assessment and treatment while conducting ALS research at Massachusetts General Hospital's Speech and Feeding Disorders Lab; she earned her doctorate from MGH Institute of Health Professions.
Jennifer Hupcher brings experience working across private clinics to preschools supervising graduate student clinicians while holding certifications such as LSVT Loud among others; she earned her master’s degree from Rhode Island University.
Katie Threlkeld serves as clinical assistant professor focusing on virtual clinic coordination; she is licensed ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist holding certification also as RESNA assistive technology professional; she graduated from University Central Missouri with an MS degree
