Yeshiva University has introduced a new Honors Leadership Society, offering highly selective fellowships aimed at fostering leadership development and providing merit scholarships to outstanding students. These scholarships can award up to $25,000 annually and span various fields, including political activism, medicine, Jewish education, and Torah study.
The Lieberman-Mitzner Center for Public Service and Advocacy’s Scholars Program is inspired by Senator Joseph Lieberman's legacy. It aims to support Israel and Jewish life within the political system. The program offers internships in Washington D.C., advocacy training, mentorship, networking opportunities, and skills training in public speaking, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
Dr. Sharon Poczter of the Sy Syms School of Business emphasized the program's comprehensive approach: “Our focus is on ensuring that students not only enter the field but thrive within it,” she said. “The program embodies Senator Lieberman’s core values of principle and integrity.”
The Zahava and Moshael J. Straus Scholars Program targets students with high academic achievements in both Jewish and general studies. This program includes interdisciplinary courses and a weekly reading group that bridges Torah with literature, philosophy, and political science.
Rabbi Meir Soloveichik stated: “Through a rigorous application process, we look for students that seek to be steeped in Torah, Jewish thought and the great works of the West.” The program received more applicants than ever before in 2024 but accepted only 8% of candidates.
The Leadership Scholarship Program focuses on students with academic excellence and leadership qualities who are committed to activism, volunteerism, and social justice initiatives. Vice Provost Dr. Erica Brown remarked: "We are deeply impressed by the strategic leadership initiatives our Scholars take."
The YU-Einstein Medical Leaders Program offers exceptional high school seniors early assurance to an honors undergraduate education at Yeshiva University followed by medical school training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Rabbi Dr. Richard Weiss highlighted the enthusiasm of the students: “Their enthusiasm, character, and personalities have made the new program the success it already is.”
Geri Mansdorf emphasized Yeshiva University's mission: “As the flagship Jewish university, we are continuously growing and improving to best provide a world-class, values-driven education.”
