Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny (R,C-Coney Island) joined lawmakers at a press conference in Albany to advocate for the passage of “Gabby’s Law” (A.3230). The proposed legislation, named in honor of Long Island resident Gabby Petito who was murdered by her boyfriend in 2021, aims to establish a “Teal Alert” system for missing adults presumed to be in danger.
“The horrific and tragic story of Gabby Petito shows us we must do more to protect victims of domestic violence and those who are missing and believed to be in danger,” Brook-Krasny stated. He emphasized that the bill would enable New York to join the nationwide missing adult alert system at minimal cost, thereby creating a coordinated law enforcement response for locating missing persons before they are harmed. “I am calling on legislative leaders to bring this to the floor for a vote before session adjourns for the year,” he added.
