Gov. Hochul has proposed a state budget that allocates over $2 billion for housing, health care, education, and other services for migrants in New York City. Assemblymember Alec Brook-Krasny expressed his concerns regarding the proposal's impact on Brooklyn residents.
"Gov. Hochul has decided to give over $2 billion to pay for housing, health care, education and other services for migrants in our city instead of helping Brooklynites who are struggling each day in the midst of an affordability crisis," Brook-Krasny stated. He further criticized the budget's implications for public schools: "This budget proposal even includes lowering the amount our public schools receive as they continue to rebuild in academics and social-growth areas post-COVID."
Brook-Krasny emphasized his commitment to opposing what he views as excessive spending that does not meet the essential needs of New Yorkers. "The last thing New Yorkers need is another over-blown budget that doesn’t address their most basic needs. I will continue to fight against this wasteful spending and put the needs of Southern Brooklyn first."
