Félix V. Matos Rodríguez, Chancellor of the City University of New York (CUNY), expressed disappointment over the disruption of a Hillel welcome dinner for students from CUNY and other universities in the city. The event, intended to help freshmen acclimate to college life, was marred by what Rodríguez described as a "disruptive hate-filled display."

"We are investigating Tuesday night’s incident and will not hesitate to enforce CUNY disciplinary actions, as appropriate, if any of the demonstrators are members of the CUNY community," said Rodríguez. He emphasized that ensuring the safety of everyone in the community remains a top priority.

Rodríguez highlighted Hillel's role within CUNY, noting it as a valued member and close partner in efforts to combat hate through initiatives such as the Campus Climate Initiative. This initiative has led to recommended policy changes aimed at fostering a safer environment.

Additionally, CUNY leadership has been engaging with Hillel groups on various campuses to address safety concerns raised by Jewish students. These measures are part of broader efforts supported by a $1.3 million investment in campus programs designed to combat hate. Other initiatives include establishing an Advisory Council on Jewish Life and launching "Our CUNY," a student-developed campaign aimed at fostering understanding across different groups.
