For those aspiring to enter the music industry, an internship with a record label representing artists like Charli XCX, Cardi B, and Ed Sheeran offers unparalleled training. This summer, Morgan “MJ” Lee, a student at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music (Tisch ’27), participated in the Warner Music Group Emerging Talent Associate Program. Working on the marketing team for Pop/Rock acts at Atlantic Records, MJ gained experience in managing large-scale social media campaigns and networking within the industry.

“I've been able to meet so many people who have experience in all different kinds of labels and entertainment companies,” said MJ. “I really like that there's freedom to meet people at all different levels of the company and across departments.”

In her role as a marketing intern for Pop/Rock acts, MJ assisted her manager with artist rollouts, created content for social media, handled scheduling tasks, brainstormed campaign ideas, researched new artists, and tracked weekly streaming data.

“I’ve had the opportunity to talk to and work with many different people across departments at Atlantic Records. Everyone has varied experiences in entertainment and at different labels,” she added.

When asked about the best perk of her internship, MJ mentioned free coffee and vinyl records. As for her dream job inspiration? “Probably something like La La Land minus the ending. My dream job would be working on my own music or being a creative director for other artists.”
