CUNY TV, the public educational television station of The City University of New York, has received 23 nominations for the 2024 New York Emmy Awards across 10 shows. This marks a record for the most nominations received by CUNY TV in a single year.

The nominated shows include “CUNY Laureates,” which earned five nominations; “Nueva York,” with four nominations; and “Asian American Life,” which garnered three. Other recognized programs are “LATiNAS” and “Shades of US,” each earning two nominations, and the newly launched talk show hosted by CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez, “Café con Felo,” which received its first nomination. Classic CUNY TV shows such as “Urban U,” “Black America,” and “Let It Rip” were also acknowledged. Additionally, CENTRO, the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College, earned three nominations for its docuseries “Puerto Rican Voices.”

This is the first time that two shows from CUNY TV’s revamped programming lineup have been nominated. The lineup was introduced last year to add more University-centric storytelling to the station's offerings. "CUNY Laureates," spotlighting award-winning CUNY graduates, earned one nomination for a segment featuring Hunter College graduate Ada Louise Huxtable. "Café con Felo" was nominated for an interview with theoretical physicist Michio Kaku.

“Congratulations to CUNY TV on an incredible showing with nominations for the New York Emmy Awards,” said CUNY Chancellor Matos Rodríguez. He added that starting "Café con Felo" allowed him to share meaningful conversations with leading New Yorkers who are friends of CUNY.

“We are incredibly proud of our very own CUNY TV for receiving a record-breaking 23 nominations for the coveted New York Emmy Awards this year," said Maite Junco, CUNY Senior Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing.

With these latest recognitions, CUNY TV has now accumulated a total of 194 New York Emmy Award nominations over its 39-year history, winning 41 awards in total.

“We are honored and appreciative to have been recognized for television excellence by our peers in the industry," said Chiqui Cartagena, Interim Executive Director of CUNY TV.

The nominees were announced last Friday. The honorees will be presented at three events in October: the New York Emmy Sports Award Ceremony on Oct. 8 at Hard Rock Hotel New York, followed by the Creative Arts Ceremony and the New York Emmy Awards Gala on Oct. 26 at New York Marriott Marquis.
