Speaker Carl Heastie and Assemblymember Demond Meeks visited Baden Street Settlement today to announce the inclusion of $8.1 million in the Enacted State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2024-25 Budget for the facility. This funding aims to enhance services for families in need across Northeast Rochester.

“I’m honored to join Assemblymember Meeks today in announcing critical funding for Baden Street Settlement,” said Speaker Heastie. “My colleagues and I remain committed to supporting New York’s families, and this includes providing our community organizations the investment they need to continue their vital work. Assemblymember Meeks fought hard for this funding, and I’m excited to see what the next century will bring for Baden Street.”

“Baden Street Settlement has been a cornerstone of the Rochester community for over a hundred years,” said Assemblymember Meeks. “This funding will provide them the needed capital to expand their efforts to care for the next generation of families as we focus on providing for all families across our great state.”

Joining Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Meeks were Rochester Mayor Malik Evans, Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, Antioch Baptist Church Reverend James Cherry Jr., and members of Baden Street Settlement’s Board of Directors, staff, and other community members. They toured Baden Street Settlement, which has served the Rochester community since 1901.

The $8.1 million in capital funding will support constructing a new facility, renovating their gymnasium, and expanding essential services including emergency assistance, youth and adult development, peer services, and senior services.

“Baden Street Settlement has proudly served our community for more than 120 years, shaping generations of Rochesterians and evolving to ever-changing needs,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “I thank our state partners for this transformational investment that will enhance Baden Street’s future. Our state and county partners, particularly County Executive Bello and Assemblymember Meeks have worked to dedicate resources to Baden Street that will allow Baden to serve our community for another century.”

"This investment in Baden Street Settlement will help improve the lives of many in our community. We are fortunate to have Baden Street as a partner that has served our most vulnerable residents for over 120 years," said County Executive Adam Bello. "I’m appreciative of Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and his support of Monroe County and thankful to Assemblymember Demond Meeks for his efforts to secure this much-needed funding. Time and time again, he has delivered for our community."
