Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny (R,C-Coney Island) attended a press conference earlier today hosted by the New York Chapter of “Run for Their Lives” to call for the release of the 134 hostages being held in Gaza. Since the devastating terrorist attacks in Israel on October 7, two New Yorkers are still among the hostages.
In response to the ongoing crisis, Brook-Krasny expressed his concerns about the rising antisemitic hate crimes in the city, stating, "Since fall, the rates of antisemitic hate crimes have gone through the roof." He highlighted the urgency of the situation by mentioning that in January alone, the NYPD reported 31 cases of anti-Jewish hate crimes, bringing the total to 193 incidents since the beginning of October.
Brook-Krasny emphasized the need for action, stating, "It’s time for lawmakers to speak out against Jewish hate and protect these communities." He reiterated his commitment to the cause, saying, "All 134 of these hostages deserve to be with their families and loved ones and I will continue to do everything I can to make sure we see their immediate and safe release."
Addressing the issue of sympathizers to the terrorists responsible for the attacks, Brook-Krasny condemned such behavior, calling it "completely disgusting." He made a strong statement against hate, declaring, "Jewish hate has no home in our country, our state and certainly not in Brooklyn." Brook-Krasny expressed solidarity with his colleagues from both sides of the aisle in advocating for the end of violence and the safe return of the hostages, stating, "I’m proud to stand with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to call for an end to this madness and bring these hostages home."
