‘Guarantee Access to Arts and Music Education’ Act to Improve Arts Education Access for Disadvantaged and Low-Income Students

Washington D.C. - Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) joined Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez (NY-07) in introducing the Guarantee Access to Arts and Music Education (GAAME) Act of 2023. This legislation would further incentivize the use of Title I federal funds to be used to improve access to music and the arts for disadvantaged and low-income students, taught by certified arts and music educators.

“It has been consistently shown that our children do better overall when they have access to a well-rounded education that includes the opportunity to explore and learn music and the arts,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “The opportunity to obtain a comprehensive and enriching education should not by limited by a family’s income or zip-code. I am proud to join my fellow members of Congress to ensure all students across the country will have equitable access to music and arts education.”

The Guarantee Access to Arts and Music Education Act will amend the Elementary and Secondary School Act (ESEA) to encourage the use of Title I funds to expand arts and music education access. This includes increasing the number of certified music and arts educators available, purchasing equipment for music and arts courses, and providing professional development for arts educations.
