“On May 12, 2023 we convened New York’s bipartisan Congressional delegation to discuss the end of Title 42 and the asylum seekers arriving in New York City. We recognize that the expiration of Title 42 will lead to larger numbers of asylum seekers that requires an expanded response, and coordination between all levels of government. We discussed the State’s ongoing response efforts including mobilizing 1,500 members of the National Guard and committing $1 billion for shelter, legal representation, and other services for asylum seekers. Governor Hochul, Dean Nadler and the bipartisan delegation agreed to pursue additional federal funding and resources to allow New York to better respond to this ongoing situation and continue urging President Biden to extend work authorization to asylum seekers so they can join the workforce and become active participants in our communities.”
