Bulldogs Pull Out Another Key Conference Win at Home Over Lehman, 3-1

Scoring another key conference win for positioning in the CUNYAC standings, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball defeated Lehman, 3-1 (25-18, 29-27, 22-25, 25-16), at the West Quad Gymnasium on Thursday.  Brooklyn improves to 7-12 overall and 3-7 in CUNYAC with the win while the Lightning falls to 10-10 and 4-7.  Next Up: The Bulldogs travel to York on Tuesday, March 28, at 7pm looking to sweep the regular season series with the Cardinals.  

How It Happened

  • Brooklyn jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the match including back-to-back aces served up by David Lema.  Lehman responded and evetually tied the set, 7-7.  Already leading 16-13, BC went on a four-score rally to take a commanding 20-13 sparked by a kill put away by Tommy Min.  
  • The teams battled back and forth through the second, exchanging rallies and leads.  Prior to having three set-points, the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the match on two consecutive scores including a kill put away by Min for Brooklyn's fourth set-point down the stretch.  
  • Lehman didn't go away, keep a three to four point lead through the majority of the third set to avoid the sweep.  Brooklyn pulled wihin a pair of points down the stretch , but the Lightning eventually closed out the set on a kill.  
  • The Bulldogs weren't deterred to start the fourth set, jumping out to a 5-0 lead.  Lehman pulled within two points on couple of occasions early in the set, but the Bulldogs denied any threat.  BC closed out the match on a kill hammered by Aziz Abdusamiev before a match-ending ace served up by Lema. 
Box Score Breakdown

  • Lehman finished with 18 service errors to the Bulldogs' 15.
  • Brooklyn had nine blocks to Lehman's one.  
  • BC served up 10 aces while the Lightning managed three.  
Leading the Bulldogs

  • Min put away a match-high 18 kills and came up with 18 digs. 
  • Armand Kaloshi added 13 kills and came up with 15 digs.  
  • Lema set for a career-high 44 assists and served up a match-high four aces.  
  • Fidel Maldonado, Jr. had six kills, three aces, and nine digs.
