Bulldogs Open 2023 Season With Sweep of Yeshiva

For the first time since 2014, the Brooklyn College softball team opened their season with two consecutive win, defeating Yeshiva, 10-2 in Game 1 and 18-1 in Game 2, in a non-conference doubleheader at Fordham University on Thursday.  The Macs drop to 0-4 on the season with the losses.  Next Up: The Bulldogs look to keep it rolling on the road at Valley Forge on Saturday for another non-conference doubleheader beginning at noon.

For the Bulldogs (Game 1)

  • Belfied went 3-3, scored three runs, and drove in a pair. 
  • Frank went 2-3 and scored a pair of runs. 
  • Guzzardi earned the win in the circle, pitching all six innings and striking out 12 Yeshiva batters.  
How It Happened (Game 2)

  • Brooklyn jumped out to another 4-0 lead to start the game, with Belfield hitter an RBI single, Frank hitting a 2 RBI double, and Prado-Capon hitting an RBI double.  
  • The Bulldogs kept things rolling in the second inning as Milan drove in Zoey Van Vleet on an RBI sinlge to start the scoring in the inning.  Milan would score on a wild pitch before Paulino trpled to score Belfield.  
  • Yeshiva avoided the shutout by scoring an unearned run on an RBI single in the third inning. 
  • Paulino hit a two-run homer in the fourth to give Brooklyn a 9-1 lead.  
  • The Bulldogs scored nine runs in the fifth as Frank hit BC's second homer of the game, scoring three runs for the final score.  
For the Bulldogs (Game 2)

  • Milan went 3-3, scored four runs, and drove in a pair of runs. 
  • Paulino went 3-4 with 4 RBI.  
  • Guzzardi pitched all five innings without an earned run and struck out 10 Yeshiva batters.  
  • Brooklyn opened the game with four runs in the first inning beginning with an RBI triple hit by Isabelle Frank to score Melanie Millan.  Frank would score on an RBI single slapped by Kaitlyn Belfield. Danielle Guzzardi hit Brooklyn's second triple of the inning to score Yesileidy Paulino and Belfield.  
  • Yeshiva cut the Bulldog lead to 4-2 on a 2 RBI double.  
  • The Bulldogs tacked on three more runs in the third inning highlighted by an RBI single hit by Belfield to score Millan.  
  • After scoring two runs in the fifth, the Bulldogs closed on the game in the sixth as Grismarly Brito Mejia crushed a double to score Monica Prado-Capon.
