Cost of college went up for all students at the Fashion Institute of Technology

In-state tuition and fees rose 4.7 percent for 2018-19 at the Fashion Institute of Technology, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

New York residents paid $5,740 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $257 more than the $5,483 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 170.4 percent more than residents this year, or $15,520. Their price tag grew 4.4 percent from $14,863 in 2017-18.

About 57 percent of the school's undergraduate population are New York residents. About 34 percent are residents of other states and 9 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 73 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 577 students received grants or scholarships totaling $3.8 million and 501 students took out student loans totaling more than $3.9 million.

Including all undergraduates (8,767), 3,949 students used grants or scholarships totaling $24.6 million, and 2,995 students took out $20.2 million in federal student loans.
