St. John’s men’s basketball player Zuby Ejiofor has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the seventh time this season, according to an announcement on Monday. Ejiofor has previously received the BIG EAST Player of the Week honor twice and has now appeared on the weekly honor roll five times out of 14 possible weeks.

Over two recent wins against DePaul and No. 3/3 UConn, Ejiofor averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game. He led all players in scoring, rebounding, and assists during both games as St. John’s extended its winning streak to nine games.

In Friday’s 81-72 victory over UConn at Madison Square Garden, Ejiofor recorded 21 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists (tying his career high), three blocks, and two steals—becoming the only NCAA Division I player this season to reach those numbers in a single game. The win was St. John’s highest-ranked victory at Madison Square Garden since January 30, 2011, when they defeated No. 3/3 Duke. With his performance against UConn, Ejiofor moved into ninth place all-time at St. John’s with 132 career blocks, surpassing George Johnson who had tallied 130 from 1974-78.

Earlier in the week against DePaul in Chicago, Ejiofor contributed a team-high 16 points along with nine rebounds and four assists at Wintrust Arena.

This season, Ejiofor leads St. John’s in scoring (15.9 points per game), rebounding (7.6 per game), assists (3.5 per game), and blocks (2 per game). He is among the top ten in each of these categories within the BIG EAST Conference and is one of only three NCAA Division I players—and the only high major player—to rank top ten in their conference across all four statistics alongside Utah Valley’s Jackson Holcombe and Raysean Seamster of UT-Arlington.

As of Monday morning, he ranks within the top thirty nationally for blocks per game (26th with two), offensive rebounds per game (16th with 3.7), and free throw attempts (18th with 178). This year he has achieved five double-doubles and scored more than twenty points six times.

Ejiofor is a senior from Garland, Texas and serves as team captain for St. John’s Red Storm Men’s Basketball—a program based in Queens that participates in the Big East Conference under its Red Storm nickname (official website). The team has won six Big East Tournament championships and two NIT titles throughout its history (official website).

St. John’s is scheduled to play Xavier tonight at Madison Square Garden at 6:30 p.m., with coverage available on FS1.
