St. John’s University announced on May 2 that men’s basketball players Zuby Ejiofor and Dillon Mitchell have received invitations to the upcoming NBA Draft Combine. The event will take place from May 10-17 at Wintrust Arena and the Marriott Marquis in Chicago, where both athletes will be evaluated by all 30 National Basketball Association franchises ahead of the league’s annual draft.
The inclusion of Ejiofor and Mitchell places St. John’s among only 17 schools with multiple invitees this year, marking the second consecutive season that the Red Storm is represented at the combine. Last year, RJ Luis Jr. participated in the same event.
Ejiofor concluded his collegiate career as a team captain for St. John’s Red Storm Men’s Basketball, starting all 37 games during his final season and leading in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks per game. He was recognized as a CBS Sports Second Team All-American and earned honorable mention honors from both USBWA and Associated Press. In conference play, he became the first Big East player to win player of the year, defensive player of the year, scholar-athlete of the year, as well as securing the Dave Gavitt Trophy for tournament most outstanding player.
Mitchell joined St. John’s for his senior season after previous stints at Texas and Cincinnati. He averaged 8.3 points on nearly 56 percent shooting along with seven rebounds per game while ranking among national leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio during his final campaign. Mitchell was named to both All-Big East Third Team and All-Defensive Team rosters while also earning NABC All-District honors.
Both seniors helped guide St. John’s Red Storm Men’s Basketball to its second straight thirty-win season last year—making them the first program in Big East history to secure outright regular-season titles alongside back-to-back tournament championships according to their official website. The team advanced to its first NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen appearance since 1999.
St. John’s Red Storm Men’s Basketball has claimed six Big East Tournament championships and two National Invitation Tournament victories according to their official website. The program plays home games in Queens, New York; it participates in Big East Conference competition under its “Red Storm” nickname according to their official website.
