Trent Grisham, outfielder for the New York Yankees, is among thirteen Major League Baseball players who have received a qualifying offer ahead of the 2026 season. The offer is a one-year contract valued at $22.025 million. Players have until 4 p.m. ET on November 18 to decide whether to accept the deal.
A qualifying offer allows teams to retain a player for another season if he accepts, or receive Draft pick compensation if he signs with another team as a free agent. Since its introduction in 2012, only fourteen players have accepted such an offer.
Grisham’s performance in 2025 was considered a significant improvement compared to previous years. He set career highs in several categories, including home runs (34), RBIs (74), walks (82), and OPS (.812). This marked a notable increase from his statistics during the 2022-24 seasons, when he batted .191/.298/.353 with 39 home runs across 381 games.
Other notable players who received qualifying offers this year include Kyle Schwarber (Phillies), Kyle Tucker (Cubs), Ranger Suárez (Phillies), Framber Valdez (Astros), Bo Bichette (Blue Jays), Dylan Cease (Padres), Gleyber Torres (Tigers), Edwin Díaz (Mets), Brandon Woodruff (Brewers), Zac Gallen (Diamondbacks), Shota Imanaga (Cubs) and Michael King (Padres).
Players eligible for a qualifying offer must not have previously received one and must be continuously under contract with their organization from Opening Day through the end of the regular season. Some prominent free agents were ineligible due to these criteria.
If a player rejects a qualifying offer and signs elsewhere, his former team receives compensation in the form of an additional Draft pick in the following year. Teams signing such players are required to forfeit one or more Draft picks, although their highest first-round pick remains protected. If a player remains unsigned after the start of the MLB Draft in the subsequent year, no draft pick compensation is attached to him.
