It was a challenging day for the New York Yankees both on and off the field. On Saturday afternoon, the team learned that Aaron Judge would miss his second game of the season due to a flexor strain in his right elbow, which will place him on the injured list.
Following this news, the Yankees faced a tough match against the Philadelphia Phillies at Yankee Stadium, resulting in a 9-4 loss. Marcus Stroman started as pitcher for New York but struggled to maintain control, allowing four runs over 3 2/3 innings with five hits and four walks. The trouble began early when Trea Turner scored from J.T. Realmuto’s single in the first inning.
Stroman managed one clean inning in the second but gave up a solo home run to Bryce Harper in the third. His difficulties continued into the fourth inning with four consecutive walks before being replaced by Yerry De los Santos.
“I have to throw more strikes. There are too many walks overall,” Stroman commented post-game.
Manager Aaron Boone remarked on Stroman’s performance: “It just got long on him there… I thought he was doing a pretty good job attacking the zone early … and then he kind of lost it a little bit with the strike zone.”
The Yankees’ bullpen also struggled, conceding five runs (four earned) over 5 1/3 innings. Allan Winans had particular difficulty during Philadelphia’s seventh-inning surge, where they scored four runs (three earned), highlighted by Edmundo Sosa’s two-run homer.
Offensively, New York showed inconsistency throughout most of the game, managing only one hit out of ten opportunities with runners in scoring position and leaving eleven men stranded on base. Giancarlo Stanton provided some excitement for fans with a two-run homer off Daniel Robert in front of an audience of 46,621.
