George Lombard Jr., the top prospect in the New York Yankees’ system and ranked No. 29 by MLB Pipeline, hit his second home run of the season during Double-A Somerset’s 12-2 victory over Binghamton on Thursday, April 11.

Lombard’s performance is drawing attention as he continues to show strong form at the start of the 2026 season. The game saw him connect for a home run off Mets position player Wyatt Young, as well as record a double and three total hits. Lombard also struck out twice during the game.

This marks Lombard’s second multi-hit effort in just five games this year, following an Opening Day showing where he collected five hits, including a double and a homer. He has now tallied at least one hit in four games so far this season, each time adding a double to his stat line. His current batting numbers stand at .476/.522/.952.

Last season, after moving up to Double-A, Lombard posted a .695 OPS across 108 games but initially faced challenges adjusting to pitching at that level. In Grapefruit League play earlier this spring, he batted .179 but demonstrated his potential with three extra-base hits and two stolen bases.

The first week of the new season indicates continued progress for Lombard as he works to establish himself further within professional baseball.
