Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz, ranked as the No. 6 prospect in the New York Yankees organization, delivered a strong performance for Double-A Somerset. The right-handed pitcher from Puerto Rico threw six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out five batters. This marks his second scoreless start in July.
Rodriguez-Cruz has been effective since June 1, maintaining a 1.32 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP with 57 strikeouts over 54 2/3 innings. His consistent results have made him one of the top pitchers in Minor League Baseball during this period.
Other prospects also had notable performances across various levels of Minor League Baseball. Jhostynxon Garcia of Triple-A Worcester matched his career high with five RBIs and extended his hitting streak to six games. Walker Jenkins broke out of a slump for Wichita by hitting his third Double-A home run and driving in runs after returning from an ankle injury.
JJ Wetherholt continued his power surge for Triple-A Memphis with his seventh home run in 13 games, including four leadoff homers this month. Zyhir Hope contributed another home run for Great Lakes, leading several offensive categories for the club.
Carson Benge hit his third home run in two games for Double-A Binghamton and has posted strong numbers since joining the team. Joe Mack recorded three hits and two RBIs for Triple-A Jacksonville, continuing a productive season.
On the mound, Hurston Waldrep finished July with seven scoreless innings for Triple-A Gwinnett, reducing his ERA to its lowest point since early in the season.
These performances highlight the depth of talent among baseball’s top prospects as July comes to a close.
