The New York Yankees suffered their eighth straight loss to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, falling 12-1 at Yankee Stadium. The defeat marks a continued struggle for the Yankees in the American League Wild Card race, leaving them 1.5 games behind Boston.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone expressed his frustration after the game. He said, “We’ve got to play better,” echoing captain Aaron Judge’s assessment that improvement must come from within the team. Judge stated, “That’s what it comes down to. Coaches can’t fix that, fans can’t fix that, media can’t fix that. It’s the players in this room. We’ve got to step up.”

Boston’s Garrett Crochet led the Red Sox with 11 strikeouts over seven innings while limiting New York’s offense to just one run on a home run by Giancarlo Stanton in the fourth inning—his 16th of the season.

Boone acknowledged the urgency of the situation as playoff opportunities diminish: “We’re not running out of time, but if we don’t do better, then it’s going to fizzle out and we’re not going to get where we want to be.”

The Yankees’ recent performance against divisional rivals has been a concern. They are now 4-15 combined against both Boston and Toronto—the two teams ahead of them in the AL East standings.

Stanton added, “They’re a good team. So are we, but we have to execute in these games… We’ve got to execute in the division. And we haven’t done that.”

Starting pitcher Will Warren allowed five runs and seven hits over four-plus innings. Trevor Story contributed significantly for Boston with a double and home run as part of a three-RBI effort. Over his last eight games facing New York, Story is batting .394 with six extra-base hits.

Story said about playing against New York: “Tensions are high with the rivalry and all that, but we’re just playing good baseball, I think… We ran into them at the right time.”

Warren commented on his own outing: “We’ve got to beat them, and we’re capable of beating them… We’re just not playing like we should.”

Judge managed an eighth-inning double but struck out twice earlier in the game facing Crochet. Since returning from injury, Judge has hit .218 with three home runs across 55 at-bats; he reported feeling physically strong but did not indicate when he might return to playing outfield.

Reliever Paul Blackburn gave up seven runs in his first appearance for New York since being acquired from the Mets earlier this week.

A late error by Anthony Volpe drew boos from fans; Boone defended Volpe’s recent defensive play but noted broader issues: “Volpe made an error, which was his first one in a few weeks. He’s been playing really well out there… The story is getting shut down and not generating enough offensively, and struggling to hold them down.”

Judge summed up team sentiment after another loss: “Everybody’s got to play a little bit better, pick it up a notch, go out there and take care of business tomorrow… There’s nothing we can do about the past 100-something games we’ve played. We’ve got to focus on what we can do now. That’s all we can do.”
