The New York Yankees emphasized their consistent mindset amid a challenging stretch, according to an April 17 update. Despite losing six out of seven games, the team maintained its usual routine in the clubhouse, preparing for each game as normal.

This approach proved effective when José Caballero hit a walk-off, two-run double that secured a 5-4 win over the Angels on Jackie Robinson Day. Veteran player Paul Goldschmidt said this attitude is intentional. “I think you see how streaky this game is,” Goldschmidt said. “You’ve just got to take it in stride and take it day-by-day when things are going good. You can’t think you’ve got it all figured out. And when you’re struggling, you can’t get down on yourself. You never know what tomorrow’s going to bring, or when things are going to turn — good or bad.”

Manager Aaron Boone addressed concerns about the team’s early-season performance but pointed out that ups and downs are expected during a long season. Boone said these challenges are discussed from the beginning of Spring Training: “One of the things I lead with in Spring Training is about how we’re going to handle the inevitable things that come at you… If you’re going to be good at this game, you’ve got to be able to handle those things and those rough stretches.” He added that handling struggles says much about a team’s character.

Team leaders Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton have encouraged players to simplify their approach at bat following recent losses. Judge said, “It starts with yourself, looking individually at, ‘Hey, what can I change?’… Go out there, do your job, and we’ll be in a good spot.” Judge also demonstrated perseverance by working through a difficult plate appearance despite his team being behind late in Tuesday’s game.

Amed Rosario commented on dealing with adversity: “There are going to be a lot of ups and downs. I think the most important thing is to turn the page and keep working hard.” Boone echoed this sentiment by saying his players “can’t ride the roller coaster” if they want continued success.

Judge concluded by reinforcing the importance of focusing forward: “Every game matters… We’ve just got to show up the next day and right the ship. You’ve got to have a short memory and move on to the next one.”
