The New York Yankees faced another defeat against the Toronto Blue Jays, marking their fifth consecutive loss in Toronto this season. The Blue Jays have now secured 11 straight victories at home. This loss places the Yankees at 10-17 against American League East teams and four games behind the Blue Jays in the division standings.
Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodón struggled during a challenging fifth inning, where defensive errors contributed to a 4-1 loss. Despite his efforts, including a tough battle with Davis Schneider, Rodón’s performance was marred by fielding mistakes from teammates Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe.
Reflecting on the game, Rodón acknowledged the strength of Toronto’s batting lineup: “They strung together some really good at-bats.” Manager Aaron Boone emphasized the need for more consistent play: “We need to obviously start playing better consistently and putting wins in the win column.”
Giancarlo Stanton managed to hit his fifth home run of the season, but Kevin Gausman’s strong pitching limited further scoring opportunities for New York. Boone noted Gausman’s improved fastball and splitter as key factors.
Looking ahead, Boone expressed interest in potential trades before the July 31 deadline to strengthen their third base position. The Yankees are reportedly considering players like Eugenio Suárez from the Diamondbacks and Ke’Bryan Hayes from the Pirates.
Despite ongoing challenges with defensive consistency, Volpe remains focused on improving his performance alongside infield coach Travis Chapman. As Volpe stated, “Any time you get a ball hit to you, you expect it to be an out.”
