Bringing together representatives from 30 global organizations, the Tianjin Juilliard School held its inaugural Orchestral Symposium and Leadership Forum in May. The event focused on collaboration and dialogue about the future of music education under the theme “Should the Paradigm Change?”.
The symposium provided a platform for arts leaders, educators, and student musicians to discuss challenges facing classical music, conservatory education, and cultural leadership. It aimed to address these issues while considering the evolving role of artists in today’s world. The weeklong event concluded with concerts in Tianjin and Beijing.
Maureen Hoon, director of public affairs at Tianjin Juilliard; Dustin Lin, social media and content manager; and Kathy Tesar, associate dean for enrollment management at Juilliard, contributed to the gathering.
The symposium was supported by several entities including the Ford Foundation, National Centre for the Performing Arts as co-presenter, presenting venues like Tianjin Conservatory of Music, and various local government bodies.
