Art Donovan died on August 4, 2013, at age 89. He grew up in the Bronx and attended Mount Saint Michael Academy. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II, then played college football at Boston College. In the NFL, he became a dominant defensive tackle. He played most of his career with the Baltimore Colts and won two championships. He was selected to five Pro Bowls and entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1968. Donovan was later honored by the Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame. After football, he became known for his humor and stories. He made frequent appearances on talk shows, including with David Letterman. He also ran a country club in Maryland. Donovan stayed active in public life and often shared his memories from the game. His Bronx roots and service in the military were important parts of his legacy.
