Thanaphat Boosarawongse leads Columbia men’s tennis at Cathrall Memorial Invitational

The Columbia men’s tennis team participated in the Cathrall Memorial Invitational at Penn State’s Sarni Tennis Center over the weekend. Sophomore Thanaphat Boosarawongse led the team with a perfect 5-0 record in singles matches.

Other members representing Columbia included Jordan Chang, Jakub Katuch, Jung Hee You, Aditya Govila, Tristan Lee, and Andrew Ena.

In doubles competition, Boosarawongse paired with Chang to achieve a 2-2 record. The duo concluded their tournament by defeating Penn State’s Reiya Hattori and Davis Lindsey 6-2. Newcomers Govila and Ena teamed up for doubles as well, finishing with one win and three losses.

Columbia improved its performance in singles play as the event progressed. On Friday, the team posted a 3-2 record in singles matches. Victories came from Boosarawongse, You, and Govila—who defeated Penn State’s Eyal Shyovitz 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

Saturday saw Govila and Ena secure a doubles win against Cornell’s Nathan Gold and Jack Casciato in a tiebreaker (7-6 [8-6]). In singles action that day, Boosarawongse beat Buffalo’s Theodoris Mitsakos 7-5, 6-4 while Ena earned a comeback victory over Penn State’s David Lindsay (4-6, 6-3, 6-3).

On Sunday, Columbia recorded three wins out of five singles matches. Boosarawongse won in straight sets against Buffalo’s Minjae Kim. Chang defeated Navy’s Charlie Spenger without dropping a set. Govila also secured another win over Mitsakos (6-1, 6-3).

Columbia is scheduled to compete next at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships hosted by Princeton on Thursday, October 16.
