Adriano Espaillat, a U.S. Congressman representing New York's 13th district since 2017, recently commented on social media about the situation surrounding air travel between the Dominican Republic and the United States. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and currently residing in Manhattan, Espaillat has a longstanding career in public service, having previously served in the New York State Assembly and Senate.
On April 11, 2025, Espaillat highlighted the high ticket prices for flights from the Dominican Republic to the United States.
The same day, in a subsequent post, Espaillat extended an invitation to a community event aimed at honoring those affected by the recent tragedy.
Early the next morning, Espaillat again expressed his sympathies concerning the incident. On April 12, 2025, he posted another message on the topic, stating, "We pray for each of the victims and stand in solidarity to embrace and comfort the families of all who have been affected by the Jet Set tragedy."
Espaillat, aged 68, graduated from Queens College, City University of New York, in 1978 with a BA. His reflections on airfare prices and his support for the affected families underscore his continued engagement with his community both locally in New York and internationally with Dominican ties.
