Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso delivered his 2025 State of the Borough address at Boys and Girls High School in Bed-Stuy, addressing stagnant growth in New York City and proposing a return to the city's roots of opportunity and innovation. Reynoso announced initiatives in maternal health, workforce development, and support for emerging artists, emphasizing a vision for New York City where every neighborhood provides opportunities for a better life.
Reynoso introduced New York State's first credit-bearing Perinatal Mental Health Advanced Certificate Program in partnership with Brooklyn College. This program aims to prepare professionals to support pregnant mothers and birthing parents experiencing mental health issues.
Additionally, Reynoso unveiled the Brooklyn Arts Ambassador Initiative to support emerging artists, introducing Colm Dillane, known as KidSuper, as the first Arts Ambassador. Dillane, a former Brooklyn Tech student and fashion designer, received recognition for his contributions to art and design, and will redesign the official Brooklyn pin for a limited edition run.
Plans for the future of Brooklyn were also discussed, with Reynoso updating attendees on the 2025 Comprehensive Plan for Brooklyn. This plan aims to address inequities and guide long-term growth and investments, introducing tools such as an Access to Opportunity Index. Other initiatives include partnerships to provide jobs for young adults in Bushwick, youth advisory councils, and housing development collaborations.
Brooklyn Borough President Reynoso emphasized the potential of Brooklyn as a hub for growth and opportunity, calling for political will and community investment to realize this vision.
