Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny of Coney Island and Bay Ridge has urged for a delay in the impending changes to the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDAP). These changes would require the elderly and disabled beneficiaries of the program to register with Public Partnerships LLC (PPL), a single statewide fiscal intermediary, by April 1. This deadline affects 280,000 New Yorkers who depend on CDAP for home care services. The transition period began on January 6, 2025, and many have not yet completed their registration.

Brook-Krasny expressed concerns about the potential disruption of care for thousands who depend on this crucial service. In response to these concerns, Assemblyman Josh Jensen and Senator Patrick Gallivan have introduced legislation aimed at extending the registration deadline from April 1 to July 1. This measure intends to safeguard the access of vulnerable New Yorkers to essential home-based care.

Brook-Krasny emphasized the importance of this program, stating, "The Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program is a lifeline for countless elderly and disabled New Yorkers across the state.” He further stressed the urgency of taking action to extend the registration deadline, ensuring that all who require these resources can benefit from them. He assured that “My colleagues and I will continue to work on both sides of the aisle to ensure these changes are made and our elderly and disabled communities are taken care of.”
