Michael Serrano appointed as CASAC program director at Wurzweiler

Michael Serrano, PhD, LCSW, has been appointed as the new CASAC Program Director at Wurzweiler. He brings extensive experience as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor with the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports. Before joining Wurzweiler, Dr. Serrano had over 15 years of experience in managing public health programs throughout New York City.

Dr. Serrano's professional background includes working with diverse age groups such as children, adolescents, and adults. His specialization lies in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use disorders. At Wurzweiler, he has taught core courses for the Joint MSW/CASAC Program along with other clinical classes within the MSW curriculum. In his new role as director, he will oversee all course content related to CASAC and collaborate with instructors involved in the program.

His research interests focus on clinical social work practice and examine how racism impacts substance use disorders and treatment completion rates. Dr. Serrano is also an alumnus of the Council on Social Work Education's Minority Fellowship Program and serves on the review board for the Journal of Social Work Practice in the Addictions.
