Grace Meng, a U.S. Congresswoman representing New York’s 6th district, recently shared her views on several significant issues through a series of tweets. Meng, who has been serving in Congress since 2013 after succeeding Gary Ackerman, has expressed concerns about federal funding cuts and potential conflicts of interest involving major space exploration entities.
On February 11, 2025, Grace Meng addressed potential reductions in funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She emphasized the detrimental impact such cuts could have on essential research being conducted at institutions like SUNY and CUNY across New York State. "Cuts to @NIH funding would be devastating to critical cancer & infectious disease research taking place at @SUNY, @CUNY, & other institutions throughout NYS." She praised New York's efforts to oppose these cuts and support ongoing life-saving research.
The following day, on February 12, 2025, Meng voiced concerns over Elon Musk's role as CEO of SpaceX and DOGE's access to NASA facilities. She described this situation as a "multi-billion-dollar conflict of interest" and disclosed that she had written to Acting Administrator Janet Petro to address the issue. "As CEO of SpaceX, Elon Musk & DOGE's unrestricted access to NASA is a multi-billion-dollar conflict of interest."
Later that same day, Meng shared her experience celebrating Lunar New Year with her constituents in Queens. She expressed joy at participating in festivities marking the Year of the Snake at the Queens Botanical Garden. "Celebrating Lunar New Year with my constituents in Queens is always a privilege."
