NYU alumni secure multiple Oscar nominations across various categories

Eleven members of the New York University (NYU) community have received 14 nominations for the upcoming 97th Annual Academy Awards. These nominations include three for Best Picture and three in the top acting categories, with nominees representing NYU's Gallatin, Tisch, Law, and Steinhardt schools.

Sean Baker, an alumnus of the Tisch School of the Arts, earned three nominations for his work on "Anora" in Directing, Film Editing, and Best Picture categories. The nominees were announced by NYU alumni Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang on January 23.

The Oscars ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The complete list of nominees is available on the Academy Awards website.

In the Best Picture category, Samantha Quan and Sean Baker are nominated as producers for "Anora," while Marc Platt is nominated as a producer for "Wicked." Timothée Chalamet has been nominated for Actor in a Leading Role for "A Complete Unknown." In Actress in a Supporting Role category, Monica Barbara and Isabella Rossellini received nominations for their performances in "A Complete Unknown" and "Conclave," respectively.

Sean Baker also received a nomination for Original Screenplay for "Anora." Paul Tazewell was recognized in Costume Design for his work on "Wicked." Brendan Bellomo's documentary feature film "Porcelain War" earned him a nomination. Lisa Remington's documentary short film "The Only Girl in the Orchestra" also secured a nomination. Andrew Watt was nominated in Music (Original Song) category for his contribution to Elton John's song from "Never Too Late."

The Academy will announce additional nominees early next month across eight film titles within Animated Feature Film, Documentary Feature Film, and Best Picture categories.
