Ozanam Scholar Finds Growth and Adventure at St. John’s

Delaware native and Interdisciplinary Business major Gabe Torres has found a profound growth and adventure during his time at St. John’s University as an Ozanam Scholar. Torres credits the Ozanam Scholars program for influencing his decision to attend St. John’s, stating, “The opportunity to be part of the Ozanam Scholars program ultimately led to my decision to attend St. John’s.” He further expressed his satisfaction upon visiting the Queens, NY campus, saying, “When I was finally able to see the Queens, NY, campus in person, I knew I made the right decision.”

Reflecting on his experiences, Torres highlighted the impact of the program on his worldview, mentioning, “I have enjoyed incredible experiences, domestically and abroad.” He also emphasized how the program has prepared him for the future, stating, “The program has prepared me for graduate school, and I’ve learned interpersonal skills through community service placements each semester.”

Torres’s mother, Ellie, shared her observations on her son’s development, noting, “Gabe has grown more independent, mature, and adventurous,” and pointing out the significant growth he experienced during his semester abroad in Rome, Italy, where he visited multiple countries. She added, “We have seen so much growth and maturity since he has been at St. John’s.”

Ms. Torres also praised the diverse opportunities available at St. John’s, stating, “Whether it’s the variety of majors and courses offered, community service options, intramural sports, study abroad programs, or taking the train to Madison Square Garden for a Men’s Basketball game, there is something for everyone.”

Gabe Torres’s journey at St. John’s University exemplifies a transformative experience marked by personal growth, academic enrichment, and a spirit of adventure, all fostered by the Ozanam Scholars program and the university's supportive environment.
