Queens Borough President Donovan Richards delivered his 2024 State of the Borough address in Queens, NY, championing investments in affordable housing, economic development, clean energy, and education. Richards expressed his optimism for the borough's future by stating, “We are not prisoners of fate, but pioneers of a future rooted in justice.” He highlighted the shared mission of creating a borough that transcends divisions and cruelty, emphasizing the need to overcome historic injustices.
The event, held at the Claire Shulman Theatre within Flushing Meadows Corona Park, featured a diverse program that celebrated the cultural richness of Queens. Musical performances by local artists and a traditional Filipino folk dance showcased the borough's vibrant community.
Retired NASA astronaut Dr. Ellen Baker, City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams provided introductory remarks before Richards took the stage. The event was emceed by Deputy Queens Borough President Ebony Young and sponsored by organizations such as the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, JetBlue Airways, Delta Air Lines, and BRP Companies.
Richards’ vision for a more just Queens was further highlighted in a short film produced by Reframe the World, showcasing his efforts to address inequities in housing, education, employment, and the environment.
