Assemblyman Michael Tannousis, along with several Staten Island officials, has demanded an investigation into the Midland Beach migrant shelter. The call for action was prompted by concerns over the shelter's operations and alleged violations.
Tannousis, in a letter addressed to Gov. Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams, and John Greenwood, expressed his dismay over the situation at the shelter. He stated, "Home for the Homeless misled the public and local elected officials before kicking out over 50 veterans from the former Island Shores Senior Center to move migrants into this location. Their actions were despicable, concerning and should be cause for alarm. There has been a complete lack of accountability and transparency from both the city and nonprofits such as Home for the Homeless. Our constituents deserve better. For this reason, we are requesting an investigation and accountability from Homes for the Homeless.”
The joint effort to push for an investigation included Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, Borough President Vito Fossella, District Attorney Michael McMahon, State Sen. Andrew Lanza, and Councilman David Carr. The officials are seeking answers and accountability regarding the shelter's operations and the decisions that led to the displacement of veterans.
The letter sent to the relevant authorities underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in addressing the concerns raised by Tannousis and his colleagues. The demand for an investigation reflects the commitment to ensuring the well-being of all individuals affected by the shelter's activities.
The call for action aims to shed light on the alleged unlawful operations at the Midland Beach migrant shelter and to hold accountable those responsible for the decisions that have caused distress to the community. The response from Gov. Hochul, Mayor Adams, and other involved parties will be crucial in addressing the issues raised by Tannousis and the Staten Island officials.
