WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Ritchie Torres (NY-15) today issued the following statement on the criminal charges facing Daniel Penny in connection with the chokehold death of Jordan Neely aboard a New York City subway on May 1:
“Jordan Neely was not armed with any weapon. He did not attack any person. He did not manifest any physical threat. There was no justification for choking Jordan Neely for 15 minutes – and ultimately choking him to death.
Now that Daniel Penny faces second-degree manslaughter charges and has turned himself in, he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
