Washington, DC – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today issued the following statement after Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced his plan to refer the motion to expel George Santos from Congress to the House Ethics Committee.

“There is already an Ethics investigation into George Santos that was announced following the Complaint that Congressman Ritchie Torres and I filed with the House Ethics Committee in January. Referring the motion to expel Santos from Congress to an existing Ethics investigation is a blatantly obvious effort to continue to protect Santos from accountability for the fraud he perpetrated to win his seat in Congress.

“The entire state of New York – and certainly their constituents – will be watching the Republicans from New York who have called for George Santos’s removal. If they vote for this, it will be clear that their promises were nothing more than political posturing and it will confirm their complicity in Santos’s continued presence in the House of Representatives.”
