New York, NY – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today joined Representatives Seth Magaziner (RI-02), Dan Goldman (NY-10), Becca Balint (VT-AL), Jared Moskowitz (FL-23), and Greg Landsman (OH-01), all of whom are Jewish or have Jewish heritage, in sending a letter to Speaker Kevin McCarthy asking him to censure Rep. Paul Gosar for harboring neo-Nazi extremists within his office.
The letter comes after recent reporting from Talking Points Memo and the Arizona Republic, which revealed that Rep. Gosar’s digital director is a prominent follower of white supremacist leader Nick Fuentes, an online podcaster and organizer who has gained online notoriety for trafficking in extreme racist, antisemitic, homophobic sentiments. Fuentes is Holocaust denier who has warned against “Jewish control,” and repeatedly praised Adolf Hitler. Likewise, Gosar’s staffer “minimized slavery, and made disparaging comments about Blacks, Asians, and Jews” and stated that women “don’t belong in the workforce.”
“At a time when antisemitism and hate crimes are reaching record-breaking levels, it is absolutely unacceptable that a sitting member of Congress employs a known neo-Nazi and supporter of white nationalist ideology,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “Rep. Gosar himself has fueled the rise in this hateful violence and is now laundering the views of a known Neo-Nazi staffer through the halls of Congress. These views and the people who support them must never have a place in our government.”
Congressman Seth Magaziner said, “It is incredibly disturbing that Rep. Gosar – who has already been censured by the House of Representatives for promoting violence against elected officials – would employ an individual who openly associates with antisemitic white supremacists like Nick Fuentes. Rep. Gosar must hold him accountable for harboring an outright bigot who is responsible for spreading the violent ideologies of white supremacy and neo-Nazism.”
Congressman Jared Moskowitz said, “A Nazi sympathizer works in the halls of Congress. As a Jewish member, I routinely receive hateful attacks because of my religion. Now, a staffer in Congress echoes those same hateful statements. There is no place for such vile extremism in congressional offices that are here to serve all of the American people.”
Congresswoman Becca Balint said, ““Rep. Gosar’s history of associating with and now hiring white nationalists and neo-Nazis is deeply disturbing. The presence of proud neo-Nazis is a threat to people of color and Jewish Americans who work here at the Capitol as well as the people we serve. Speaker McCarthy must hold Rep. Gosar accountable for this kind of overt neo-Nazi sympathizing.”
Congressman Greg Landsman said, “Rep. Gosar should appreciate that there is a lot of talent out there. He doesn’t need to hire a Nazi,”
