Congressman Goldman Reaffirms U.S. Support for Ukraine in Second Year of Russian Invasion

New York City Home to Largest Ukrainian Population in the United States

New York, NY – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today joined colleagues in rallying support for Ukrainian victory against the Russian invasion by cosponsoring the Ukraine Victory Resolution, affirming American support for our close ally against an unjust and brutal autocratic invasion. Congressman Goldman calls on others to support Ukraine for moral and humanitarian interests as well as to protect U.S. interests, European security, and global peace. New York City is home to more than 150,000 Ukrainians with the largest community based in New York’s 10th Congressional District in the Little Ukraine neighborhood.

“The spirit and resilience of the Ukrainian people over the past two years of horror has been an inspiration to the world,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “I stand in firm solidarity with our Ukrainian friends, the Ukrainian community, the country of Ukraine, and those we have lost. The United States has rallied our allies all over the world in strong support for Ukraine, and we must remain steadfast in that commitment. I will do everything in my power to maintain the strength of the Ukrainian-American alliance and be a worthy representative for the Ukrainian community in my district.”

This resolution affirms that it is U.S. policy to work to ensure Ukraine is able to retain sovereignty over its internationally recognized borders, to pursue justice and reparations for Ukraine to help facilitate reconstruction. It also seeks to integrate Ukraine into Euro-Atlantic institutions like NATO, consistent with U.S. policy since 2008.

The threat to United States interests, European security, and global peace would greatly increase should Ukraine be unable to prevail against the invasion, since this would embolden the Russian Federation and other autocratic states to engage in aggression against other states.
