Long Island, NY—Congressman George Santos (NY03) awarded the 2023 Congressional Art Competition winner for New York’s Third Congressional District to Jasmine Wang, a sophomore at Syosset High School. Her artwork will be on display in an exhibit in the halls of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. for one year. Since 1982, hundreds of thousands of high school students have participated in the United States House of Representatives Congressional Art Competition. The competition is held each Spring and provides an opportunity for artistic high school seniors to display their talents on the national stage. Entries came from high school students all over New York’s Third Congressional District, which comprises the North Shore Nassau County and parts of Eastern Queens.

Congressman Santos served as Honorary Chairman of the award reception and ceremony hosted jointly by Teaching Art Studios in Oyster Bay, while his District Director, Mark Woolley oversaw the competition. Robert Zeller, Teaching Studios Director, was joined by art jurors Abigail Tulis, and Luis Colan.

“Every submission we received was astounding, but the talent of the four finalists is awe-inspiring,” said Rep. Santos. “Congratulations to our 2023 Congressional Art winner, Jasmine Wang. I look forward to seeing your artwork showcased in the halls of Congress for an entire year. I also want to thank our second and third place finalists, you all are an exceptional group of students, and I wish you all the best. As a result, I will be displaying your artwork in both my DC and District Offices for an entire year.”

“It was an honor to judge such a phenomenal group of young artists in Congressional District Three. We had two rounds of judging, and it was tough to only select three works from what I bet was probably the best selection of work in the country,” said Teaching Studios Director Robert Zeller. “We were happy with the wide range of styles and themes of the applicants, who's work varied from current political and social events to the more personal and intimate statements.  These young are talented!”
