BC Men's Volleyball Stopped at CCNY

Coming off of their first CUNYAC win of the season over York on Tuesday, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team wasn't able pick up back-to-back conference wins on Thursday, falling at CCNY, 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-20).  Brooklyn moves to 5-9 0verall and 1-4 in CUNYAC with the loss while the Beavers improve to 7-3 and 2-3 respectively.  Next Up: BC returns home on Tuesday, March 14, for a conference match against John Jay at 6pm.  

How It Happened

  • With the Bulldogs leading 18-14 in the first set, the Beavers went on an eight-score rally and completed the comeback to take the first set.  
  • Another close start to the second set, CCNY went on a 7-0 run to take a commanding 23-12 lead.  
  • Trailing 10-3 in the third set, Brooklyn staged a comeback and after a 4-0 run pulled within a pair of scores, 17-15.  Brooklyn would continue to knock on CCNY's door to only trail 21-20 down the stretch.  However, the home team closed out the match on four straight scores.  
Box Score Breakdown 

  • CCNY hit .198 to Brooklyn's -.033.
  • Both teams served up one ace each.  
  • The Beavers were better at the net on the evening, finishing with a 10-4 advantage in blocks.  
Leading the Bulldogs

  • Fidel Maldonado, Jr. led the offensive attack with a team-high 9 kills.  He also came up with four digs.  
  • Armand Kaloshi added 7 kills and came up with 7 digs.  
  • In his first match with BC, David Lema set for a team-high 19 assists, served up the Bulldogs' lone ace, and came up with 7 digs.  
Leading CCNY

  • Jeff Celis put away a match-high 10 kills and came up with 8 digs.  
  • Tenzin Tsepak finished with 9 kills and 5.5 blocks.  
  • Edwin Gayton came up with a match-high 10 digs.
