Event: Veladas Hostosianas: Poet and critic David Cortés Cabán and Hostos scholar Orlando José Hernández

Poet and critic David Cortés Cabán and Hostos scholar Orlando José Hernández will present their findings from a research trip to Santiago de Chile, in April of 2019. They recovered dozens of Hostos documents: uncollected articles that appeared in the Chilean press and some unpublished letters. They will discuss the significance of these findings in terms of Hostos’s journalistic work in Chile, his defense of women’s rights, and his activism in the struggle for Cuban and Puerto Rican independence. We will address questions such as where he lived and how did Chileans receive him during his 18-month sojourn in that South American country.
