Mayor Adams announces $12m expansion of CUNY Inclusive Economy Initiative

On May 20, 2024, New York City Mayor Eric Adams and The City University of New York (CUNY) Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez announced a nearly $12 million expansion of the CUNY Inclusive Economy Initiative. This initiative leverages CUNY campus resources to create college-to-career pipelines for CUNY students. Since its launch in 2022, the initiative has served over 3,100 students and worked with more than 2,000 industry partners. It advances the city’s goal to connect 80 percent of CUNY graduates with careers following graduation by 2030.

Katz School confers 278 degrees at eighth commencement ceremony

The Katz School of Science and Health conferred 260 master’s and 18 doctoral degrees at its eighth commencement ceremony on May 16. The event also recognized the first M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies graduates.

CUNY's Annual Spring Citizenship Drive Provides Free Legal Assistance to Over 300 Green Card Holders

On May 20, 2024, more than 300 green card holders received free legal assistance with their naturalization applications at the annual Spring Citizenship Drive hosted by CUNY Citizenship Now!. This all-day event, co-hosted by Univision and held at CUNY’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan, was aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of naturalization and helping eligible immigrants complete their journey to becoming U.S. citizens.

St. John's University holds 154th annual Undergraduate-Level Commencement Exercise

On a radiant Sunday, St. John’s University held its 154th annual Undergraduate-Level Commencement Exercise on May 19 on the Great Lawn of the Queens, NY, campus. Nearly 1,900 undergraduate degrees were conferred at the ceremony for students attending the Queens, Staten Island, and Manhattan campuses, as well as those earning their degrees through online coursework. The ceremony also marked the final Commencement for the University’s Staten Island campus.

Yeshiva University hosts discussion on antisemitism, media and Jews

On May 7th, the Zahava and Moshael Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought of Yeshiva University hosted its annual Rabbi Allan Mirvis Lecture at the Fifth Avenue Synagogue in Manhattan. The event, titled “Antisemitism, the Media, and the Jews,” drew dialogue among notable voices in Jewish media: John Podhoretz, editor of Commentary Magazine; Alana Newhouse, editor-in-chief of Tablet Magazine; and Elliot Kaufman, letters editor at the Wall Street Journal. The discussion was moderated by Straus Director Rabbi Dr. Meir Soloveichik.
