In the fall of 2020, at the height of the pandemic, St. John’s University welcomed a new class of over 2,000 first-year students. Their college experience was marked by unique challenges and circumstances that set them apart from previous cohorts. We recently spoke with several of these students as they reflected on their unique college journey and the insights they gained over the past four years.
The academic year 2023-2024 has been marked by numerous milestones and achievements for the university community. From a presidential inauguration to a basketball national championship win, and a solar eclipse, the year was filled with memorable moments. Notably, students, faculty, and staff made significant strides in various fields.
This winter, Juilliard student and alumni actors and musicians premiered six chamber pieces staged to vignettes adapted from Chekhov’s Three Sisters. The interdisciplinary project was part of Juilliard’s February residency at Chelsea Factory, under the direction of drama faculty member Richard Feldman in collaboration with chamber music faculty member and Arnhold Creative Associate at Large Nadia Sirota.
Juilliard, a leading institution in performing arts education, continues to cultivate exceptional talent not only on stage but also behind the scenes. The Professional Apprentice Program, initially launched as an internship program in 1977, has become a hub for hands-on learning and personal development. Over the years, it has adapted to include fresh perspectives and broaden its impact.
Angie Zhang, a Juilliard alumna who spent 13 years at the prestigious institution from the age of 10, has been charting her own path in the world of music. After leaving New York City during the COVID-19 pandemic, she relocated to Ann Arbor and is currently completing her doctorate in piano performance and master's in fortepiano performance at the University of Michigan.
Kwame Anthony Appiah, a professor of law and philosophy at New York University (NYU), and J. Anthony Movshon, an NYU neuroscientist, have been elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society, the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence.
