Zoya A. McCants, Ed.D., LMHC, LPC-ACS, RYT, an Assistant Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at St. John’s University, has been honored by the American Mental Health Counselors Association with the Dr. Linda Seligman Counselor Educator of the Year award.

The award is designated for individuals dedicating 51 percent of their time to academic activities such as teaching, training, consulting, supervising, researching, or program development. It also acknowledges exceptional and humanitarian service to others.

Dr. McCants received this recognition in Las Vegas, NV. She expressed that it was a humbling and affirming experience that reinforced her commitment to her field. “It reminded her why she chose this path—to stand in the gap for those navigating invisible wounds, to train the next generation of counselors to do this work with compassion and courage, and to center stories often left untold.”
